Volunteers including RNW Readers and contractors turned out to help a Roman in need early Saturday Morning.
The volunteers gathered at 11 Robinson Rd. around 8:00 AM in an organized effort to help Rusty Dixon restore his home after it was heavily damaged in a November ‘07 fire.
The fire occurred while Rusty was at work when one of his many small dogs scratched into an electric blanket. Both water and power were cut to the residence after the blaze and due to Rusty’s situation, he was unable to keep his jobs. This prompted the 42 year old man to make-do with what he had as he stayed at the damaged house with his dogs for over 6 months.
The sitiuation took a turn for the worst earlier this month when the county moved to condemn the property, but this would actually lead to a movement to help Rusty. Members of Romewired.com, our sister site, organized an effort to help Rusty by restoring the property to a liveable condition.
Over the past 23 days, these people have organized a work day, complete with contractors and materials that came together this morning. According to RNW Editor Jerry Duke, there were 20 volunteers along with heavy equipment to clean up the property.
Volunteers will be there cleaning and repairing throughout the day Saturday.
