Overturned Tractor Trailer Blocks Hwy. 53

An overturned tractor trailer is to blame for blocking all northbound traffic on New Calhoun Highway Tuesday Morning.
The tractor trailer turned over south of the intersection of GA Hwy. 53 and GA Loop 1 around 6:00 AM. The tractor initially collided with two vehicles before proceeding up the wrong way of Hwy. 53 before finally tipping over. Only the truck driver was injured, having a minor head injury. The truck which was carrying wood chips did not spill any of its load.
The wreck left a massive amount of diesel fuel spilling from the truck and running towards the intersection. Georgia DOT was summoned to bring a dump truck full of sand to cover the fuel.
Northbound Lanes were blocked between the Floyd Co. Jail and the intersection during the investigation and up-righting of the truck, and were still blocked at 7:45 AM.
