Suspect In Grenade Incident Arrested

Floyd County police have made an arrest in connection with the discovery of a homemade hand grenade at a convenience store in Coosa in April.

34 yr old Richard Garrett III of Silver Creek, who was already in jail on other charges, was charged with possession of a destructive device and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Paperwork at the Floyd County jail claims that Garrett took the device to the store on Highway 20 April 24th, with the intent to distribute. Bomb squad chief Tom Ewing said the device was lethal and could have caused a major explosion had it been detonated beside one of the gas pumps at the Kangaroo store near Coosa High.
