A gas leak in the North Rome Area left residents confined to their homes Thursday afternoon.

Private Contractors working for Atlanta Gas struck a 4 inch main that was buried around 4 feet deep around 3:50 PM at 409 Grady Ave.

The crew of Rome Fire Engine 1 arrived to find that the break was “slightly blowing” natural gas, creating a dangerous situation for the neighborhood.

Rome Firefigters with Engine 4 went door-to-doo, asking residents to stay inside.

The gas company arrived around 4:15 PM to repair the main.
