Floyd County Holding Cleanup In Shannon Community
Floyd County Public Works will be hosting the 1st clean-up event of 2008 in the Shannon Community on Saturday, July 26th, from 9 am until 2 pm. The event will be at the Joint Industrial Park off West Hermitage Road. There will be three more events for 2008 held throughout the County. This is an excellent chance to get rid of material that normally must be hauled to the Walker Mountain Landfill. There will be no disposal fee and workers will be onsite to unload the material.
“We serviced 150 vehicles and collected more than 50,000 pounds of waste at the clean-up in this community during 2007,” said Michael Skeen, Director of Public Works for Floyd County. “Floyd County will cover the cost of the hauling and tipping fees. We hope that making it more convenient and free will encourage people to participate.”
Material accepted includes old mattresses, furniture, yard toys, and building supplies.
The event is restricted to Floyd County residents and no commercial dumping is permitted. Televisions, computers, tires and liquids will not be accepted.
