Plane Suffers Hard Landing At Russell Field

By RNW Reporter Hayden Jennings
Workers at Richard B. Russell Airport summoned the assistance of Rome Firefighters when a Civil Air Patrol airplane landed hard and flipped off of the main runway Monday Morning.
The plane landed and crashed shortly before 10:30 AM. After landing hard, the plane ran off the runway and flipped, coming to a stop on its roof and leaking fuel from one of the wings.
Rome firefighters from Engine 8 arrived and were able to contain the small leak and also set up a foam operation as a precaution.
The pilot was reportedly uninjured and refused treatment from EMS while sitting in the terminal building.
The plane was left with airport representatives until FAA Investigators could investigate the accident late Monday. Until then, the plane will remain in it’s current position at the airfield.
