Dog Narrowly Escapes Falling Tree During Storms

By RNW Reporter Hayden Jennings

A local boy and his dog are happily together Tuesday Night after the dog narrowly escaped death when a tree fell atop his pen.

The dog, a 1 year-old Australian Blue Heeler named Blue, had been locked in his pen at 2215 Kingston Hwy. when his owner, 8 year-old Austin Vines had left for a play-day Tuesday Afternoon.

As Tuesday’s second wave of storms approached, the heavy winds toppled a nearby Bradford Pear Tree, which fell across the side of dog’s pen and a swing set.

Austin arrived home a short time later to find Blue running loose, so terrified, that he jumped into the car.

The dog was left unscathed by the incident, but will likely be terrified by future storms.
