CVTC’s Office Of Adult Education To Host Reception At Polk Family Learning Center
Coosa Valley Technical College’s Office of Adult Education will host a reception at the Polk Family Learning Center in Cedartown, Georgia on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. for members of the Early Childhood Initiative (ECI) Steering Committee. For the past four years, this group has organized fundraising events and supported services to families which are not covered by existing public funding. The Office of Adult Education, which umbrellas the budget and funding aspects of the program, seeks to recognize the efforts of this committee which has been instrumental in keeping the Family Learning Center operation going since the original grant funding ended four years ago.
The grant to initiate a focus on family literacy came through Polk County’s Family Connection from the Georgia Children’s Trust Fund, Inc. and the Appalachian Regional Commission. CVTC became involved to serve as fiscal agent and as the provider of required adult education services in 2000. In 2004, it became a local responsibility to raise the necessary funding for the required early childhood education services, and the ECI Steering Committee was formed to lead the effort.
This reception is one of several activities and events planned by the Office of Adult Education leading up to the annual celebration of International Literacy Day, September 8, 2008.
