Car enthusiasts are braving the rising heat today to talk shop and show off their rides at the seventh annual Armuchee Ruritan Club’s Classic Car Show.

The event serves as the group’s major fundraiser for the event, said club president Lewis Evans.

“We usually have between 100 and 150 cars,” he said. “I think we’re seeing a little less today because of the heat and gas prices though. Hopefully they’ll keep coming in.”

The money raised from the show and swap meet will be used to fund scholarships for Armuchee High School students and other benevolent causes through the year, Lewis said, adding that he expects to raise about $10,000 before the end of the day.

Car registration for the event has closed, but the show continues and awards and prizes will be announced at 2 p.m.

Lewis said a lot of prizes will be handed out, including “longest distance,” “oldest car,” “oldest person,” and “best in show.”

Admission is free for the public and food and drinks are available for purchase.
