Structure Fire Destroys House Near Lake Weiss

A structure fire in extreme Western Floyd County has destroyed a home near Cedar Landing in extreme Western Floyd County Saturday Afternoon.
Firefighters from the Cave Spring Fire Dept. along with the assistance of Rome Fire Engine 7 and Car 25 responded to the 7100 Block of Blacks Bluff Rd. around 12:30PM to reports of a fully involved home across the street. While the resident was known to be at home, he was not accounted for at that time.
A Floyd Co. Police Unit was first on the scene to the area near the state line and Lake Weiss. The officer found that the resident was out of the home and accounted for.
Firefighters arrived and began battling the totally involved house fire at Cedar Landing, which is on the East Side of Lake Weiss.
The fire was brought under control around 1:10 PM, though an additional engine company had been called to the scene to relieve those who had been fighting the fire in the summer heat. Redmond EMS had also set up a Rehab Station so that those who had been relieved could have a sit-down to rest and rehydrate as needed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and a representative from the Fire Marshals Office was en route to investigate. The Red Cross had also been callled to aide the residents there.
