Local Daycare Owner’s Son Confesses To Child Molestation
The teenage son of the daycare owner in Floyd County has confessed to molesting a child under his care. Now police fear there could be more victims.
Investigators say his record was clean, his mother a respected daycare owner, and 17-year-old Cody Pope, her help. The family ran their small daycare from their Silver Creek home for five years. On July 28, Pope’s mom left him in charge to keep a watchful eye.
“Cody’s mom had run some errands and left Cody and another lady, an older lady in charge,” said investigator Mark Corbin.
It was nap time. Police say the daycare rules were clear. The upstairs rooms were off limits.
“They are definitely not allowed in the bedroom area and the bathroom area of the parents,” said Corbin, who interviewed Pope.
But investigators say Pope took a little boy upstairs to his bedroom anyway, where they watched “The Incredibles.” The boy told police Pope led him to his father’s room, pulled out a .357 magnum, and showed him the gun. Then, watched the little boy as he took a shower in the bathroom. When that was done, investigators say Pope took the boy to a locked room, inaccessible to others.
“That’s when he touched the child,” said Corbin. “Some inappropriate touching, took some clothes off.”
The details to which Pope confessed to investigator Corbin.
“He did admit to it, the allegations,” Corbin said.
Police fear there may be more victims.
“He lived there. He was the son of the owner of the daycare. He had access to them on a daily basis,” said Corbin.
Pope was arrested Monday and bonded out the next day. He is charged with one count of child molestation, but police say more serious charges may be pending.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Floyd County police investigation unit.
