Man Fights With Officers, K-9 After Overnight Traffic Stop; Two Arrests For Meth

41 year old Demetrius F. Jones was arrested in east Rome Wednesday evening, charged with DUI, driving on a suspended license, assault on a police officer and injuring a police dog.

Jones supposedly slugged Rome police Captain Rodney Bailey and then fled on foot. He was caught by a K-9 which Jones battered about it’s head in an attempt to get away. The dog was not thought to have been seriously injured.

In other overnight arrestst, 38 year old Mark H. White of an old Summerville Rd. address in Rome was arrested late Wednesday night for possession of both methamphetamines and marijuana.

Officers carried a search warrant to his home where the drugs were found.

26 year old Justin Cody Higgins of Rome was arrested Wednesday, charged with possession of methamphetamines and possession of an undisclosed controlled substance. Higgins was arrested following a traffic stop early Wednesday morning at Vann Drive and Highway 20.
