Unemployment At Highest Rate In 15 Years
There is bad news from the Dept. of Labor today. Georgia’s unemployment rate for July checked in at 6.2%, the highest figure in 15 years.
First time claims for unemployment assistance in Floyd County shot up 80% from June. 948 first time claims were filed in July. 189 of those were what the state calls employer filed partial claims, meaning that a plant might have shut down for a week or two and they employer filed for the aid from the state on behalf of it’s workers.
In July, the Dept. of Labor in Atlanta sent more than 3,800 unemployment checks to out of work Floyd County citizens worth more than $881,000.
