Rome Police Officer Injured During Foot Chase
By RNW Reporter Hayden Jennings
Rome Police temporarily suspended the search for several suspects who had run from a house in North Rome after one of the pursuing officers was attacked by yellow jackets.
Police initially responded to the 300 block of Smith St. off of Turner McCall Blvd. just after Midnight when residents reported several suspicious black males in the area. Officers arrived to find that the suspects had ran just prior to their arrival. The suspects were then spotted running down Turner McCall Blvd. back towards Reservoir St., where they ran down a steep hill and lost the pursuing officers.
As officers began setting up a perimeter, a call for help went out from the house on Smith St., where a city officer was on the ground after being attacked by a hive of yellow jackets.
The officer was treated on the scene by Rome Fire Engine 1, Rescue 1, and Floyd EMS. Police were able to apprehend one of the suspects and also seize the vehicle they were in.
