Green Pedal Power

The Rome Downtown Development Authority and Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau, along with Regions Bank and community partners, unveiled a Green Bike Rental Program today at a press conference on the steps of City Hall.

The idea for a Green Bike program stemmed from a strategic planning session with the DDA. An advertising campaign with Regions Bank prompted City officials to contact the bank and Regions agreed to donate 40 bicycles to this program.

“It was a natural fit for us to help out with this great effort,” stated Regions representative Talley Clower. “We applaud the efforts of the Downtown Development Authority, the City of Rome and everyone who has worked to make our community a little greener, and to provide such a great program to our citizens and visitors.”

The Greater Rome CVB will have Green Bikes available for individual rental but also plans to offer bicycle tours and trips. “Visitors will be able to park their car and see Georgia’s Rome from the seat of a Green Bike,” stated Lisa Smith, CVB Executive Director. “With miles of trails that parallel Rome’s rivers and a vibrant Historic District guests will be able to dine, shop, and see the sights from the best seat in town.”

Daily Green Bike rentals are $5 per day. An annual pass is also available for $25. Green bikes may be rented at four locations:

· Rome Visitor Center, 800/444-1834, 402 Civic Center Drive - Rome, GA 30161

· Rome Downtown Development: 706/236-4520, 607 Broad Street - Rome, GA 30161

· Hawthorn Suites: 706/378-4837, 100 W. Second Avenue - Rome, GA 30161

*Guests ride free!

· YMCA: 706/232-2468, 810 E. Second Avenue - Rome, GA 30161

*Members ride free!

To further demonstrate Regions’ commitment to the “greening” of Rome, Regions is also planting two trees in Bridgepoint Plaza. Regions will also be giving away a new Green Bike at tonight’s First Friday concert in Bridgepoint Plaza.
