Floyd County Commissioners have approved amendments to their 2008 budget, adding another $25,000 for the Public Health Dept., and including enough money to start implementation of a public safety employee pay raise plan. A small tax increase will be required this year, but the county will not have to tap into it’s reserves.
It is not clear though how much public safety employees will actually see increase in their paychecks due to a substantial new increase in insurance premiums. With the increase of 9%-12% in income that public safety is expected to receive, they will also see a jump in healthcare premiums of 19.88%.
Along with the 19.88% increase County employees will see, there will be a noticeable reduction in insurance benefits.
In other commission business, commissioners got a presentation from the initial Floyd FIRST employee group. The group would like to see county employees more involved in mentoring of at risk students and would like to create an outreach committee to perform a variety of community service projects.
The county employees want to make sure the professional development program continues and also wants to develop an employee events community to foster better relationships among county employees.
