House Study Committee on Hospital Tax & Indigent Care to convene in Rome
The House Study Committee on Hospital Tax & Indigent Care will convene in Rome, Ga., on Wednesday. The hearing will be located in the chambers of the Rome City Commission.
Representative Katie Dempsey partnered with Floyd Medical Center in hosting the six-member study panel. The Committee, chaired by Representative John Lunsford, was created by House Resolution 1625, which passed in the previous legislative session. HR 1625 states that the Committee “shall undertake a study of the conditions, needs, issues, and problems” related to “the policies of for profit and nonprofit hospitals in this state concerning the provision of care to Medicare and Medicaid patients, indigent care patients, and charity care patients.”
“I was delighted when Katie and Floyd Medical Center asked to host the inaugural hearing of the committee in Rome” said Lunsford, “health care is a life or death issue for Georgians, and I want to thank Katie and Floyd Medical for the attention they pay to charity and indigent care.”
The meeting is the first of three planned that will examine in-depth the issues of hospital finance and indigent care that affect how Georgians interact with the health care system. The panel is charged with making a recommendation to the full House of Representatives by the end of the year.
“I am pleased to serve on this study committee” said Dempsey, “our citizens deserve the best quality medical attention, and expect responsible spending of their tax dollars. Floyd Medical Center does an excellent job of providing treatment to their patients and that is a great benefit to our community.”
The hearing will last from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and occur at the Rome City Auditorium, 2nd Floor, on 601 Broad St., in downtown Rome.
