NASA Administrator To Speak At Berry

The future of space exploration will be one of the topics of discussion Thursday, Sept. 25, as the Berry College School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences hosts a 7 p.m. presentation by NASA administrator G. Thomas Pentrack in the science auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.

An employee of NASA since 1989, Pentrack currently serves as deputy directory of the International Space Station (ISS)/Payload Processing Directorate at John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida. His lecture will focus on a multitude of topics, including current and future plans for the space shuttle, the International Space Station, robotic exploration of the solar system and human exploration of the moon and Mars.

Pentrack is visiting Berry thanks to a written proposal developed by Dr. Tamie Jovanelly, assistant professor of geology, for NASA’s Distinguished Lecturer Program. This educational initiative is meant to provide college students with opportunities to learn about current research.

“I requested a speaker who would be qualified to speak about geology (specifically) but could also cover broader terms applicable to biology, chemistry and physics,” Dr. Jovanelly said. “Mr. Pentrack is exactly the type of speaker we were seeking.”
