Serious Felony Crime Down 13%, Meth Labs, Marijuana Seizures Up In County
The street value of drugs seized by Rome Floyd Metro task Force officers this year has totaled $167,100, down from the $259,000 worth of drugs seized through August of 2007.
Methamphetamine seizures are way down, but marijuana seizures are 75% higher than a year ago. ironically even though the seizures of meth is down this year, officers have seen a huge increase in the number of meth labs that have been discovered. So far in 2009, police have found 11 meth labs compared to only 4 all of last year.
Arrests by Task Force officers are down from 253 through August last year to 192 through the end of August in 2008. Prescription drug seizures are way up through August.
The Rome Police Department is also reporting that serious felony crimes in Rome are down 13% in Rome through the first two thirds of the year. Major decreases in aggravated assaults and auto thefts have been reported through the end of August, while felony thefts and burglaries are both up slightly over this time last year.
