Just as a series of Structure fires left the Rome Firefighters busy for a short time Sunday Night, around 15 hours later, a series of wreck alarms had them rushing Monday afternoon.

The initial call came in around 3:00 PM of a single-vehicle accident at Donahoo Rd.  A flood of various calls for service for the Fire Dept. had left the closest engine company being Engine 2 from Cave Spring St, thoiugh distance was not a problem. Rome Fire units arrived quickly to treat the driver, who received only minor injuries.  The driver was transported to Floyd Medical Center for treatment and firefighters were able to clear the wreck from the road.

Another wreck occurred around 3:10 PM during the intial response on N. Second Ave. in front of Safe Locak and Key. Due to various other minor calls in the Downtown area, Rescue 2 and Quint 5 were dispatched to this call. While the wreck caused two-minor injuries who were both transported to FMC for treatment, the biggest complication seemed to be the traffic. Rome Police were forced to control traffic in the area from the Oostanaula Bridge up to the intersection of N. 2nd Ave. and W. 3rd St., causing a minor rush hour nightmare on one of Downtown’s busiest arteries. The area’s traffic was affected for about 45 minutes after the accident.
