Armed Suspect Apprehended in Mutual-Aid Situation
By RNW Reporter Hayden Jennings
It is a common occurance for a 911 call to come in from a bordering jurisdiction due to phone coverage, but rarely does it result in a cross of jurisdiction to resolve a life-threatening situation as it did Thursday Morning.
The call started at around 11:40 AM when a call came into Floyd 911 reporting a domestic disturbance where a male with a gun was dragging a female around the yard at a Buttermilk Rd. address. The call was dispatched to two Floyd County Police units along with Cave Spring Police. It wasn’t long before 911 discovered that the address was actually 1-1/2 miles inside of Alabama.
Police units were initially cancelled with that news, but soon realized they were possibly closer to the volatile situation than any of Cherokee County’s units. With that, a total of two FCPD units and two CSPD units announced that unless they heard further, they would head that way as mutual-aid.
A county unit was the first on scene followed closely by the Cave Spring Units. The officers were able to move in and capture the armed suspect all within 3 minutes of their arrival, and before any of the Cherokee Co. units made it to the scene.
The suspect was turned over to Cherokee Co. Sheriff’s Deputies who are investigbating the incident.
