Local Authorities along with many participants were left satisfied Thursday Morning after their flu pandemic exercise went off without a hitch.

The line which wound around the parking lot at times and across the front of the Floyd County Health Dept. on E. 12th St. went fairly quickly as 15 people at time were accepted into a statging area and then into a vaccination area. The event was very organized and each group stayed together until they exited the building. The event lasted from 8:00 AM until either 11:00 AM or when the supply of 1400 doses was depleted.

The exercise while providing the community with free vaccinations, also helped Public Health and Safety Authorites to prepare in case of a real flu pandemic. The “Unified Incident Command” included the Rome Police Command Vehicle, officers from all Floyd Co. Law Enforcement Agencies, along with the Floyd Co. SWAT team as security, along with Rome Fire units who assisted in the staging process. The exercise also included 140 various volunteers. While these agencies may seem like many resources, GEMA officials could expect a contigent of 75-100 agencies to participate in a real emergency.
