New information concerning the two escaped inmates from the Hays State prison in Summerville has some people even more concerned for their safety in the Southern Chattooga County and Northern Floyd County area.

According to records, inmate Johnny Mack Brown who escaped with fellow inmate Michael Tweedel has a long history of violence including shooting an armored car guard in the chest three times while robbing the armored truck in Athens and getting away with 180 thousand dollars.

Brown is no stranger to escapes, in 1998, he managed to escape from the Clarke County jail and was on the lamb for nearly three weeks. During that time, he is accused of beating an elderly South Carolina man with a barbell and stealing his car.

Brown and Tweedel are still thought to be in the Southern Chattooga or Northern Floyd County area.

Authorities are conducting a press conference this morning and we will have additional details when they are available.
