Hays Escapee Abducts Summerville Girl
The Georgia Department of Corrections states that the investigation continues into the apprehension of Hays State Prison escapees Johnny Mack Brown and Michael A. Tweedel. Additionally, the Department confirmed that a Chattooga County woman was abducted from her home on Monday, October 20th, by escapee Johnny Mack Brown. She was not harmed, and has been returned to her family.
Inmate Brown entered the woman’s home while she was away and abducted her at knifepoint upon her return. She was forced to drive Brown to Franklin County, Georgia where he was picked up by an unknown person. The abductee reported the information to the local law enforcement and they are currently pursuing leads as to the whereabouts of Johnny Mack Brown. We can confirm that he is no longer in the Chattooga County area.
The investigation continues into the whereabouts of Michael A. Tweedel; however there are strong indications that he is no longer in the Chattooga County area. The Department anticipates standing down the perimeter security and search operations in the immediate area, and will continue to pursue all leads toward the apprehension of both inmates. GDC stressed their appreciation for the assistance and resources provided by Sheriff Kellett and other local law enforcement agencies
As a result of this breaking information, the Department has scheduled a press conference for today, October 21st, at Hays State Prison at 10:30am.
Authorities noted that the search will now be expanded to include a larger area, with the assistance of state and federal law enforcement agencies throughout the Southeast, to ensure these felons are apprehended as quickly as possible.
Commissioner James E. Donald stated, “We have to be cautious with the release of information and assume that the escapees will have access to that same information.” “At the same time, we want to assure the community that we are investigating the circumstances of the escape from Hays, and we are taking strong measures to ensure there is no reoccurrence,” Donald added.

I thought that the Summerville Girl had returned home with her car. I’m not understanding the part of the article and the stories that were on the news appear to conflict. I don’t understand alot of how this came into play. If I was confronted by a man with a knife , who had about 20-30 yrs. on me as far as age…there was no one else in the home.(Children etc.) I believe that I would have ran. This man is “not at all young”. If he held a GUN… it would be different. You can out run a a knife. If her car was seen at the brother’s home, why was it parked there? Did Brown use her cell phone as well? I’m pretty skeptical of just about the whole story.
