Fire Chief Selection Could Come Within Two Weeks
According to Rome City manager John Bennett, 42% of the employees in the Rome Fire Department will be eligible for retirement within five years.
Bennett says a number of captains positions are now open as a result of retirement. A Captains assessment is underway at this time.
The manager also said a new chief to replace Bobby McKenzie might be agreed upon within the next couple of weeks. He added that there are internal candidates for the post.
Bennett also said, Rome firefighters at the bottom of the pay scale may get a pay raise next year. The manager told the Fire Overview committee that the city is looking to bring it’s public safety pay scale up to par with the scale adopted by the Floyd County commission earlier this year.
