City Selects Henderson As Fire Chief

By RomeNewswire • on October 31, 2008

Longtime Rome Deputy Chief Gordon Henderson, a 33-year veteran of the Rome Fire Department, has been named the new Fire Chief of the Rome Fire Department.

It had been thought recently that the decision may come next week. However, RomeNewswire learned today that the decision was made this morning.

Henderson was selected from among a long list of applicants which had been narrowed to a short list of 3 last week. He has been serving as Deputy Chief of Operations since 1993 and held the position of Deputy Chief of Support Services from 1988-1992.

According to City Manager John Bennett “When we looked at the qualifications of all applicants, it was apparent that Gordon Henderson had the education, experience, and a good knowledge of Rome and Floyd County and we feel that he is the most qualified for this position.”

It is not clear at this point who will be named as Deputy Chief to replace Henderson.
