Dry brush and low humidities only fueled a brush fire in Silver Creek that left two fire companies busy Saturday afternoon.

The fire in the 5400 block of Rockmart Hwy. was dispatched around Noon to Engine 10, Quint 3, and Car 25. Crews were also warned that the fire was beginning to endanger structures in the area. Engine 10 arrived to find a large fire moving into heavy underbrush at 5406 Rockmart Hwy.

Quint 3 was able to respond to the endangered structure and protect it while Engine 10 moved to control the main body of the fire. As the fire crept towards an area of inaccessible underbrush, crews called for Georgia Forestry to plow a break around the fire.

As of 1:15 PM, both companies were still on the scene and Georgia Forestry had just arrived.

All of North Georgia is under a Red Flag Warning until 7:00 PM due to the dry conditions.
