City Commission Approves Henderson As New Fire Chief
The Rome City Commission officially approved the selection of Gordon Henderson as the new fire chief at its meeting Monday night.
In a vote of 8 to 1, commissioners voted for approval with Commissioner Kim Canada voting no. Canada Told the commission that he had already spoken to the Commissioners and Chief Henderson about the reasons for his no vote.
City Manager John Bennett selected Henderson after receiving interest from 74 applicants. Out of those, 12 were interviewed and finally narrowed to three applicants. The other two applicants have yet to be identified.
Henderson said after the meeting that he is “honored to be selected and to be able to serve this community.”
