Police Warn Local Residents To Beware Of Automated Scam Calls Pretending To Be Local Banks
Rome police are encouraging people not to respond to automated phone calls about their bank accounts.
Police says calls have been generated to Romans, supposedly from at least two local institutions, representing themselves to be security from the institution. The call claims your debit or credit card has been cancelled because of a fraud alert and then advises you to press 1 to reactivate your card. If you press one, then you are asked for your card number and at that point, someone gets access to your card.
If you get an automated call such as this, police say to hang up immediately.
