Man Shot In Armed Robbery at Buffalo’s

Rome Police responded to the area of Buffalo’s Southwestern Cafe after a man was shot during an armed robbery attempt late Thursday evening.
The shooting occurred just before 11:30 p.m. Initial reports indicate a black male wearing all black attempted to rob the business at 440 Shorter Ave. and shot the man with either a small caliber pistol or a revolver.
Police were quickly on the scene after the crime was reported, though they had trouble gaining entry because the doors were locked. The manager was found wounded on the balcony area. Police were also blocking off the area behind the cafe where the suspect ran out the backdoor so the crime scene could remain undisturbed.
Though no canine officers were on duty at the time, one was called in to search for the suspect. Officers from the city and county police, and Sheriff’s Office were setting up a perimeter along Division Street and John Davenport Drive.
The canine tracked the suspect to an area near John Davenport and Division Street before it lost the scent.
Police say the man was shot once in the leg and was only slightly injured. He was taken to Floyd Medical Center in a personal vehicle.
Officers were on the scene until around 2 a.m. and are still investigating the incident.
