An alleged drunk driver was facing drug charges Sunday afternoon after he wrecked on Mathis Road, taking a fence with him.

The wreck occurred around 4 p.m. on Mathis Road near Ellis Road. According to FCPD Officers Buddy Parris and M.C. Chewning, the unidentified male driver was traveling Northbound on Mathis Road when he lost control of his Green Chevy Malibu. The car hit the embankment on the west side of the road, spun around, and ran off the east side coming to rest on a fence and Cedar tree.

Initial reports indicated the man was trapped and the car was on fire, though the driver was able to climb out. Both RPD and FCPD officers responded and found the man was extremely intoxicated and moderately injured.

The driver was transported to FMC with moderate injuries. A search of the vehicle found three open containers of beer along with a box containing what appeared to be marijuana.

Traffic on Mathis was hampered in both directions while the wreck was cleared.
