Suspected Arson Damages Vacant House

A West Rome house received damage in what fire and police officials were calling a suspected arson late Monday afternoon.
Rome Police Along with Rome Fire Quint 5, Engine 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Truck 29, and Cars 25 and 23 responded to 100 Holmes Rd. around 3:45 PM to find heavy smoke coming from the home. Firefighters were able to make a precautionary search and douse the blaze within 15 minutes.
According to Rome Fire Deputy Chief Benny Bohannon, the home was found to be vacant after both Fire and Police began investigating. This led authorities to suspect that the fire was an arson and call an official from the Fire Marshal’s Office.
Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
