Central Plaza Evacuated After Fire

Fire fighters were called to the Central Plaza shopping center Wednesday around 8:30 p.m. after flames were spotted coming from the structure.
Rome police were on the scene first and evacuated the shopping centers other businesses.
Several engine companys were dispatched including Firefighters from Engine 1, Engine 2, Quint 3, Quint 5, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, along with Cars 23, 25, and 26.
Firefighters contained the fire to the main facade of the structure and were able to get it under control before it did heavy damage to the building.
The location is the future home of the Rome Habitat for Humanity store which had planned to open soon. There is no word yet if the fire will delay the opening of the store.
Fire investigators responded to the scene and a cause has not yet been determined.
