Movies at Mt. Berry Evacuated After Natural Gas Odor
By RNW Staff Writer Hayden Jennings
Rome Fire units and Police units converged on Mount Berry Sqaure Mall Sunday Night after ordering a temporary evacuation of the theatre due to a smell of natural gas.
Employees reported a strong odor of natural gas both in the theatre and behind it just before 10:00 PM. At that time, employees had said that they were awaiting an evaluation of the situation by firefighters before evacuating, though firefighters suggested an immediate evacuation. Several Rome Police Officers arrived a few minutes later and began clearing the theatre, which was only showing 1 movie at that point.
Firefighters checked the building and surrounding area but could not detect any odors. The evacuation only lasted around a total of 10 minutes
