Suspect In Custody After Overnight Police Chase

topA suspected DUI Driver was in custody after leading Rome Police on a chase through East Rome early Sunday Morning.

According to Rome Police Sgt. Randy Kirkpatrick, he first observed the gold Saturn sedan traveling on Turner McCall Blvd. without its headlights on around 1:30 AM. The driver then fled when Kirkpatrick attempted to stop him at Hicks Dr.

The driver led police on a roundabout chase through the East Rome area, eventually getting on E. 12th St and turning right onto the short end of E. 2nd Ave. towards Callier Springs Rd. Police were able to converge on the suspect at E. 2nd Ave. at E. 14th St., where he stopped and was apprehended. The suspect , a middle-aged white male, was turned over to a DUI Task Force officer who performed a field sobriety test on the scene.

Kirkpatrick said that driver would be charged with driving with no headlights, fleeing and attempting to elude, and DUI.
