Stimulus Money May Pay For Water, Sewer Projects
Rome’s water and sewer committee agreed to seek federal stimulus funds for improvements to the Oostanaula River raw water intake station.
Water boss Leigh Ross says the city is eligible for $800,000 and 40 percent would not have to be repaid. The water and sewer committee will also seek $3 million for improvements to the Horseleg Creek sewage lift station, 70 percent of that picked up by federal stimulus funds.
Ross predicted that they city will be assessed fines for two big spills from that Horseleg sewage station in recent weeks.
