Rome Water Session Draws Slim Crowd

Less than two dozen citizens, most of them directly linked to water issues showed up as Rome Rep. Katie Dempsey brought together a panel to discuss water issues in Rome Monday night.

CRBI Executive Joe Cook said the state is not doing enough to encourage conservation of water.

Becky Champion with the Georgia EPD said that all of the state’s water councils are having to deal with more than one water basin, but that should not be a stumbling block to their deliberations.

Rome City Manager John Bennett will chair the Coosa North georgia Council. Mary Freeman with the US Geologic Survey in Athens refuted claims that better scientific data is needed regarding protection of endangered fish species in an Eotwah Habitat Conservation Plan.

Inter-basin transfers continued to be a big issue along with education of the public when it comes to water quality and quantity issues.
