Chamber Of Commerce Unveils Small Business, Entrepreneurs Initiatives
To celebrate National Small Business Week, which is May 18-22, the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce unveiled Monday a few new efforts to promote, attract, and sustain small business and entrepreneurs in Rome and Floyd County.
“For every Pirelli, there are a hundred small businesses, maybe more,” said Eddie Wilson, vice-chair of the Chamber’s Business & Professional Division. Wilson noted the importance of small businesses in the community during a press conference at the Chamber’s downtown office.
One of the most notable new services announced Thursday was the creation of an 80-page booklet called “Entrepreneurship Guide for Rome & Floyd County, Georgia.” The document, available online by clicking here, provides just about everything one might need to know when considering starting a business in the area, including a map of locations to file the appropriate paperwork.
“It may not answer every question, but it certainly does provide lots of useful information,” said Wilson.
The guide surely leaves few questions unanswered as it has sections about writing a business plan, financing, marketing, legal concerns, choosing locations, zoning, workforce issues, hiring and firing, insurance, and more. It is basically a step-by-step guide for anyone wishing to start a small business.
The Chamber also officially unveiled the new small business portion of their Web site, which includes the entrepreneurship guide grouped into small, more specific sections for easier use, as well as information about the Small Business Action Council. There are also links to other information small business owners may find useful, such as marketing resources and the Chamber’s “Drugs Don’t Work” drug-free workplace program.
“We want to show that this community continues to stand behind our small business owners and entrepreneurs,” said David Newby, chairman of the board. “We continue to build upon our ongoing strategies for entrepreneur and small business support.”
