County Commission Sets Public Hearing On Sign Ordinance
The Floyd County Commission will hold a public hearing on the new proposed Sign Ordinance on Tuesday during the regularly scheduled board meeting.
The proposed sign ordinance contains revisions and deletions to the existing Sign Ordinance under the ULDC (Unified Land Development Code).
The changes have been debated for months by the Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission.
A change to the Sign Ordinance was first proposed to make the procedures for obtaining and displaying signs less complicated.
Instead, the entire procedure, requirements and specifications appear to have become more complicated – at least, on paper.
Earlier this month, the county commission voted to delay a decision on the ULDC proposed revised Sign Ordnance in order to first discuss the revision details with city commissioners.
The Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission recommended to the city and the county approval of the draft sign ordinance with a vote of 7-3.
Planning Commission members Elaina Beeman, Graham Dixon, Bill Irmscher, Charles Jackson, Terry Jones, John Maddox and Rhonda Wallace voted in favor of the recommendation, and members Jarrell Cagle, Ronnie Kilgo and Nathan Roberts voted against it.
City officials have delayed action in order to discuss details with the county during June’s Joint Services Committee meeting.
Although the county’s public hearing is Tuesday, county commissioners may also opt to delay action on the proposed Sign Ordinance until after the Joint Services Committee meeting.
In other business, the Floyd County Commission is expected to:
• Vote on the adoption of a resolution for submission of an application for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for the Clemmonsville Area Water Improvements Project. The grant of up to $500,000 has a June 1 application deadline. The entire Clemmonsville system overhaul would cost close to $1.8 million. If the grant application is approved, the county would still be responsible for between $500,000 and $1.3 million, which may be acquired through a low-rate GEFA loan.
• Hold a public hearing for a special use permit request for a manufactured home on a subdivision lot in a Suburban Residential (S-R) zoning district on property located at 210 Adams Circle. The request comes with a recommendation of approval (10-0) from the Planning Commission.
• Vote on the adoption of an amended Pauper Burial Policy.
• Award bids for the lease-purchase of a one-ton crew cab truck, a six-yard dump truck and a tractor with boom mower for the Floyd County Public Works Department.
The Floyd County Commission meets Tuesday, May 26, at 6 p.m. at the Floyd County Administrative Building.
Floyd County Manager Kevin Poe, left, goes over specifics of Tuesday’s commission agenda with Floyd County Commissioner Eddie Lumsden.
