Soldier’s Body To Arrive Thursday; Route To Funeral Home Planned
The body of a local soldier killed in Afghanistan is scheduled to return to Northwest Georgia on Thursday according to Floyd County Coroner Barry Henderson.
21-year-old Jeffery W. Jordan of Cave Spring was killed in Afghanistan last Thursday. Jordon was posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant.
His body is scheduled to arrive at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport at about 10:45 a.m. From there, a processional featuring the Patriot Guard will escort the body through Rome to Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, where the family is expected to receive friends at Henderson and Sons Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday.
Several local groups are encouraging citizens to line the streets to show their support to the family of Jordan.
The route the processional will take is as follows (Click here for a map): At about 11 a.m. Thursday they will leave the airport via Russell Fied Road and make a left onto Martha Berry Highway. Traveling south, the processional will continue on Martha Berry until reaching the intersecton of Turner McCall Boulevard near Floyd Medical Center. A left on Turner McCall will take the group south. They will stay on Turner McCall until the Maple Road exit just south of the interchange. A left on Maple Road is the last turn before the group will arriver at Henderson & Sons, located at 3002 Maple Road.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Miller and the Rev. Robert Vines officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
