FMC Welcomes New Residents

Eight new physicians have joined Floyd’s Family Medicine Residency Program.

Established in 1976, the Floyd Family Medicine Residency Program provides three years of academic and clinical post-doctoral education to medical school graduates.

During the residency, the physicians complete a rotation schedule that provides in-depth learning experience in such areas as surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, obstetrics and orthopedics.

The new residents are Jennifer Ann Albert, M.D., Jessica Balkema, D.O., Christina Douglass-Aldridge, M.D., Matthew Scott Dykema, D.O., Terrance James O’Malia, D.O., Erica M. Paez-Zapata, M.D., Adriana Pratt, M.D. and Mark D. Virtue, M.D.

Albert received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Saint Joseph College, West Hartford, Conn., and her medical doctorate from St. Matthews University School of Medicine, Grand Cayman, British West Indies. She resides in Rome.

Balkema earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from North Georgia College and State University, Dahlonega. She received her Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine while attending the Georgia campus. She and her husband, Casey, reside in Lawrenceville.

Douglass-Aldridge earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Georgia College and State University, Milledgeville, and received her medical doctorate from the Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta. In addition, she earned an Associate of Science degree from Young Harris College, Young Harris, Ga. She resides in Smyrna with her husband, Jason.

Dykema earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Southeastern University, Lakeland, Fla. He received his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine while attending the Georgia campus. He and his wife, Carolina, reside in Snellville.

O’Malia received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Gardner-Webb University, Boiling Springs, N.C., and his medical doctorate from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Lake Erie, Penn. He and his wife Lori, reside in the area.

Paez-Zapata completed her undergraduate education and received her medical doctorate from the Universidad de Antioquia, Medellin in Colombia, South America. She and her husband Esteban, reside in Rome.

Pratt completed her undergraduate education and received her medical doctorate from Universidad Anahuac in Mexico City. She and her husband Edward, reside in Atlanta.

Virtue earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He received his medical doctorate from St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies. He resides in Rome.

Residents see patients both in the hospital and at Floyd’s Family Medicine Center located at 304 Shorter Ave. in Rome.
