Man On Lawn Tractor Hit By Car

By RomeNewswire • on June 25, 2009

A 68-year-old white male who was doing yard work on Hycliff Road in West Rome was struck by a vehicle at about noon Thursday.

The man, now identified as Herman Lawrence, was riding a yard tractor and pulling a small trailer on the edge of the roadway when he was hit by a red Honda Accord driven by Phyllis Dimou, 41. Police say Lawrence was trimming trees in a yard and hauling scrap to a pile beside the road at about 114 Hycliff Drive. As he turned his tractor to pull in the driveway the brush pile obscured him from Dimou’s sight.

The imact was almost head-on between the Accord and the tractor, and the force sent the tractor and the man 72 feet backward.

First responders were treating Lawrence for what appeared to be serious injuries. He was transported to a hospital for treatment. Dimou was also taken to the hospital for unknown injuries.

Both individuals were Hycliff Road residents.
