County Police Fingerprint More Than 200 Children During Safety Day

By RomeNewswire • on June 27, 2009

The parking lot at Lowe’s on Shorter Avenue was a busy place Saturday morning as the home improvement store hosted Safety Day and hundreds of area families turned out for the event.

Cpl. Greg Beck of the Floyd County Police Department said he and Officer James Hinkley fingerprinted more than 200 children between 9 a.m. and noon. All ten fingers were printed onto a booklet which parents were encouraged to fill out and keep in a safe place. Each one was space for a current photo of the child, physical description, contact numbers, medical information and more.

Beck said the information could be valuable should a child ever go missing.

Officials from Floyd Medical Center and the Rome Police Department were also on hand to give away free bicycle helmets and host a bicycle rodeo. Before the event wrapped up at noon about 50 children had received a helmet.

Officer Jame Hinkley fingerprints 5-year-old Alyia Carroll.
