Dry Conditions Fuel Woods Fire

By RomeNewswire • on July 1, 2009

Fire fighters and Georgia Forestry Personnel responded to the area of North Second Avenue near the rail road tracks midday Wednesday after callers reported a fire burning in the woods.

According to Rome Firefighters, about an acre was burning in the area.

Officials said the fire was semi contained due to the railroad tracks on either side of it but called in a unit from Forestry to cut a break to be sure.

Forestry units had a break cut by 2:15pm.

According to Georgia Forestry officials, the fire will still smoke for the better part of the evening but is contained.
