Man Arrested Ater Running From Traffic Stop
An unidentified Rome man was apprehended after he ran from a traffic stop and hit a police officer in the process Thursday Afternoon.
Accoding to Rome Police Officer Lindi Lawson, she pulled the silver Mitsubishi Gallant over around 4:00 PM at the intersection of North Broad St. at Harvey St. Lawson approached the vehicle and got the mans information before returning to her vehicle. At that time, Lawson learned that the tag on the Gallant was suspended. As she confronted the suspect, he opened his car door and struck Ofcr. Lawson before running into the woods between N. Broad St. and Copeland St.
Upon hearing Lawson’s call that the suspect was running, several Rome Police officers along with Floyd County Sheriff’s Deputies sprang into action and formed a perimeter around the area. Officers also responded to the Dollar General nearbyafter the suspect had told Lawson his wife worked there. A short time later, Rome Police PFC Lee Bowden entered the woods behind Scant’s Pawn Shop and located the suspect hiding there.
The suspect was booked into the Floyd County Jail on numerous charges including the suspended tag and battery on a peace officer.
