Local Police Officers who are cracking-down on DUI’s this holiday weekend kicked their effort off after apprehending a dangerous driverin a Friday night pursuit.

According to Rome Police PFC Brent Novinger, while details were sketchy at this point, the incident began after both Rome and Floyd Co. Police were given a lookout about a white truck with trailer running through a yard in West Rome and possibly hitting a mail box. An FCPD supervisor then spotted the truck pulling from Coker Dr. westbound onto Shorter Ave. and observed it swerving and driving recklessly. After pursuing the vehicle out GA Hwy. 20 with speeds reaching 60-70 MPH, the truck finally pulled over on Woods Rd. in Coosa.

Police apprehended the driver and searched the vehicle before it was impounded. The process was made difficult for officers after family members pulled up at the scene, wanting to secure personal items from the suspect’s Flatbed  Chevy truck. The suspect, who remained unidentified per the demands of family members on the scene, was taken to the Law Enforcement Center by Rome Police for a Breath Test before being transported to the Floyd County Jail where he was charged with numerous violations including DUI and Reckless Driving.
