Planning Commission Postpones Decision On Rodeo Request
The Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission on Thursday postponed action on a Special Use Permit request in a Community Commercial (C-C) zoning district to hold a rodeo on property located at 5 East 12th Street in Rome.
The property is located in the South Rome Redevelopment district, and the South Rome Redevelopment Agency (SRRA) would like the opportunity to review the application and speak with the applicant.
In a statement issued by SRRA, the agency stated that it has not yet met with the applicant and would like for him to present his request to the agency before it issues a comment.
Although some Planning Commission members contended that SRRA has had plenty of proactive members and enough time to contact the applicant, the commission voted 5-3 to postpone the applicant’s request for 30 days to allow SRRA enough time to review the request.
The Planning Commission also requested that the applicant bring back to the commission a more detailed site plan and further details about the rodeos he plans to present.
In other business, the Planning Commission:
Recommended approval 5-3 for a request for a Special Use Permit for a manufactured home on a subdivision lot in a Suburban Residential (S-R) zoning district on property located at 479 Minshew Road.
Recommended denial (8-0) for a request for a Special Use Permit for a manufactured home on a subdivision lot in a Suburban Residential (S-R) zoning district on property located at 20 Overlook Estates Drive.
Recommended approval (8-0) for a rezoning request from Light Industrial (L-I) to Community Commercial (C-C) for residential and commercial use and a Special Use Permit request for loft apartments in a C-C zoning district on property located at 353 Burlington Road in Shannon.
Was reminded by Planning Director Sue Hiller that 2010 is a census year, with the census focusing on “Complete Count” involving strategies to ensure that everyone is counted including immigrants and homeless persons.
