By RNW Staff Writer Hayden Jennings • on July 11, 2009

A woman can give thanks to her small stature as it very well may have saved her life in a horrific rollover crash Saturday Morning.

The accident occurred around 5:45 AM Saturday Morning on Cave Spring St. just South of McHenry Dr. According to FCPD Officers, the woman was headed Southbound on Cave Spring St. in a Gold Chevy S-10 when she veered off the road into a deep ditch separating Cave Spring St. and Old Cave Spring St. The truck then flipped and the crashed into the enbankment of a cut-over drive. The impact crushed the front of the cab in and down into the passenger compartment leaving the woman trapped in the upside-down truck.

Rome Fire Engine 2 was first on the scene and reported the female was concious and alert, though extrication would be necessary. Rome Fire Rescue 1 then arrived and used wooden supports to stabilize the truck. Firefighters egan working, and were able to free the female without using the Hurst Tool.

According to authorities, the female sufferred only what appeared to be moderate  injuries including neck and back pain. Authorities also speculated that the female’s small stature is what kept her from being crushed. She was transported by Floyd EMS. The wreck left a small crowd of spectators and limited Cave Spring St. down to one lane near Agnes St. for around 30 minutes.
