County Commission To Receive FACTA Information, Hold Three Public Hearings

By Dawn Treglown • on August 23, 2009

On Tuesday, the Floyd County Commission is expected to hear from Harold Gipson during the county commission meeting.

Gipson will be discussing the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACTA).

In 2003, FACTA added new sections to the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Introduced primarily to help consumers protect themselves from the increasing threats of identity theft, accuracy, privacy, limits on information sharing and new consumer rights to disclosure are included in FACTA.

According to Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, a report released by the Federal Trade Commission in September 2003 estimated that close to ten million people were victims of identity theft in 2002 alone.

Unfortunately, the incidence of identity theft continues in increase.

In response, additional provisions have been adopted aimed at prevention of identity theft and help for victims of identity theft.

Gipson will be addressing county commissioners during the public participation portion of the scheduled meeting.

The county commission will also hold three public hearing on Tuesday.

There will be a public hearing for a request for rezoning from Suburban-Residential (S-R) to Light Industrial (L-I) for an existing auto repair and auto paint and body shop on property located at 1528 and 1544 Calhoun Avenue. The request comes with a recommendation for approval (9-0) from the Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission.

A public hearing will also be held for a request for a Special Use Permit (SUP) for a manufactured home on a subdivision lot in an S-R zoning district on property located on 41 Pineview Drive. The request comes with a recommendation of approval (7-2) from the Planning Commission.

The other public hearing to be held on Tuesday concerns Unified Land Development Code (ULDC) text amendments regarding public input during zoning hearings.

The Floyd County Commission is also expected to:
Accept the following roads within the Wood Glen Subdivision, Phase II on county maintenance: Foliage Way NE, Treehouse Trail NE, Honeytree Trail NE, Sapling Court NE, Split Branch Court NE and Detention Pond #1 (located on lot #301).
Receive a request from the Public Works Director to amend the Equipment Budget to allow for the purchase of three fuel dispensers for $25,000.
Consider adoption of a plan to begin hiring staff for the new Work Release Center.
Declare a 1993 Ford Crown Victoria as surplus.
Approve a resolution authorizing condemnation of a portion of the Berry Family property for right-of-way on the Armuchee Connector Project, which is funded through the 2006 SPLOST (special purpose, local option sales tax).
