House Burns Overnight In South Rome

By RNW Staff Writer Hayden Jennings • on November 15, 2009

A one-story home in South Rome was heavily damaged after a fire raced through it early Sunday morning.

Rome Fire Engines 1 and 2, along with Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Car 25 and Truck 29, responded to a reported fire at 5 Pollock Street around 2:45 a.m. Rome police officers were first on the scene first and found that flames were already coming from the rear windows and roof of the house.

The fire was also endangering two neighboring houses.

Firefighters were able to gain a knockdown on the flames within 15 minutes, though the small wooden frame house received extensive damage.

According to fire officials, neighbors had said that the home owner was in the process of moving and was not there when the fire broke out.

A representative from the Rome Fire Marshal’s Office also responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the blaze, which was undetermined Sunday morning and remains under investigation.
